What We Talk About When We Talk About Race is the culmination of a year-long discussion and production process that took place between African-American and White students and professors in the Department of Communication Studies. What began as a set of informal dinners, in which we slowly, haltingly, and gradually told stories about ourselves, our families, and our histories with race, has resulted in a devised production that includes personal narrative and adaptations of literature that reveal what we learned on our journey from conversations to a performance that has been collaboratively conceived, written, and directed.
