Internation Janachek Festival and Conference

Rich melodies, colorful orchestration, and unmistakably Czech influences combine with 20th-century techniques in the music of Leoš Janáček.  His work will be the focus for four days in February, when performers, scholars and enthusiasts of Czech music convene in Denton for the American leg of a music festival and conference that spans two continents.

The collaboration between the Janáček Academy of Music and the Performing Arts in Brno, Czech Republic and the UNT College of Music consists of eight concerts, a pre-concert lecture series, and a day-long academic conference.

Explore 400 years of Czech music through a series of concerts ranging from Baroque music of Bohemia to works by contemporary Czech composers. On the final night of the conference, UNT Opera will present Janáček’s song cycle Zápisník zmizelého (“The Diary of One Who Disappeared”), originally for voice and piano, for the first time in the U.S. as a semi-staged one-act opera with full orchestration.
