Every year on October 2, cities around the world honor those who have been wrongfully convicted and spread awareness through their stories. This year, the UNT Department of Criminal Justice is joining the House of Renewed Hope by hosting a Wrongful Conviction Day event featuring judges, attorneys, and investigators who have worked on actual innocence cases, as well as four men who spent years in prison for crimes they didn’t commit.

 

SCHEDULE

 

9 to 10 a.m. - Judges

  • Stephanie Huff : Judge, Dallas County
  • Brandon Birmingham : Judge, Dallas County
     

10 a.m. to noon - Attorneys & Investigators

  • Michelle Moore : Attorney and Board Member, House of Renewed Hope
  • Mike Ware : Attorney, Innocence Project of Texas
  • Laneshia Jordan : Former Law Enforcement Officer and Attorney for House of Renewed Hope
  • Terri Moore : Criminal Defense Attorney
  • Christian Smith : Investigator, Dallas County Public Defender Office
  • James Hammond : Criminal Investigator, Dallas County District Attorney
     

2 to 4 p.m. - Exonerees & Natalie Roetzel Ossenfort

  • Christopher Scott : Wrongfully convicted of capital murder, spent 13 years in prison.
  • Thomas McGowan : Wrongfully convicted of rape, spent 23 years in prison
  • Johnny Pinchback : Wrongfully convicted of rape, spent 27 years in prison
  • Charles Chatman : Wrongfully convicted of rape, spent 26 years in prison
  • Natalie Roetzel Ossenfort : Program Director, Alliance for Justice
