About this Event
1800 Chestnut St., Denton, TX 76201
https://unt.bridgeapp.com/learner/training/a80b7022/enroll #trainingAccommodations (also known legally as “academic adjustments”) are designed to allow students equal opportunities in their academic endeavors. One such academic adjustment that a student may request is a course substitution or modification of degree requirement. When a student makes this request, they indicate that they have a disability-related barrier which impacts their ability to take a certain class or classes.
This session will review this academic adjustment/accommodation in general terms initially, and then will dive deeper into the UNT specific process, how these accommodation requests should be reviewed, and then what happens if the accommodation is or isn’t approved or deemed reasonable. We will also review recent rulings from the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and discuss a case study.
This session is geared primarily toward Deans, Associate Deans, Advisors, and others who may interact more with course substitutions/modification of degree requirements. However, this session is open to any UNT Faculty or Staff member who wishes to learn more about the accommodation and UNT process. Faculty and staff will leave with ready-to-use information.
Accessibility Information: Automatic captions will be provided on the Zoom session. A copy of the PowerPoint slides will be sent prior to the session to all registered attendees. The Zoom Q&A feature will be enabled for questions to be asked during the Zoom session and an electronic page will be made available for participants to ask anonymous questions to be answered directly during the live training. Time will be made available at the end for a Q&A. If you require accommodations to access this training, please reach out to Jessica Stone, ODA Director, at Jessica.Stone@unt.edu as soon as possible.
