About this Event
Nicholas D. and Anna G. Ricco, longtime friends of the University of North Texas provided a generous gift to endow the Ricco Ethics Scholarship Competition in 2011. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of North Texas who meet the eligibility requirements specified in the guidelines found below.
The ethics competition was created to promote intellectual debate and discussion on ethics as related to students’ areas of study at UNT, their field of vocation or their avocation. The goal is to stimulate the applicants to new heights of reasoning and self-discipline. The ultimate result will be a higher level of ethical understanding in one’s area of study and daily life. It was the hope of the donors that students will recognize and better comprehend the need for a higher understanding of ethics in their personal and professional lives.
The award for the first place winners in both the undergraduate and the graduate categories will be $5,000; in some years there will also be a substantial second-place award in the undergraduate category. Since award funds will be credited in the winners’ student accounts in the following fall semester; only students who will be enrolled in the following semester will be eligible. Students who will graduate before the Fall 2025 semester should not apply.
Entries will include a 1000-word essay about a case study. The case study for the 2023-2024 award year can be found in the guidelines below. All entries, including the essay, should be uploaded below. The student identifiable information required in the webform below will only be used by the Provost's Office to contact individual winners. All submissions reviewed by the Scholarship Committee will be blind submissions and identifiable information will remain confidential. It is important that applicants carefully follow all of the guidelines. Entries that do not will not be considered.
The deadline for all submissions is December 2, 2024.
