The Historical Aspects of Brazil’s Classical Vocal Music Repertory. The lecture will address aspects of the development of Brazilian History overviewing the discovery, colony period, the independence, modernism and 21st Century contemplating the diversity of influences that contributed for the construction of the cultural identity of Brazilian people and music, and inserting relevant composers such as: Father Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia, Carlos Gomes, Alberto Nepomuceno, Heitor Villa- Lobos, Claudio Santoro, and Gilberto Mendes.

ROSANA LAMOSA

Soprano

Rosana Lamosa is one of the most important Brazilian sopranos, which has been recognized by the critics and the cultural community.  She has been awarded with the APCA (1996), Carlos Gomes (1998 and 2002) and the Order of Ipiranga (2010) awards in the degree of Commander.

In her career, Rosana has performed the roles of Manon, Melisande, Mimi, Violetta, Juliette, Susanna, Marie (Fille du Regiment), Lucia de Lammermoor, Amina, Adina, Norina, Gilda, Rosalinde, Anne Truelove, Nannetta, Hanna Glavari, Micaela, Donna Anna, Elvira, Lucy, Countess, Titania, and others.  She participated in the first Brazilian production of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen.  She sang O Guarany in Lisbon, Armide at the Buxton Festival in England, Rigoletto in the Michigan Opera, and performed on important stages such as Carnegie Hall and the Concert Hall in Seoul.  She starred in the Brazilian premieres of Villa-Lobos’s Magdalena, Alma by Claudio Santoro and A Tempestade by Ronaldo Miranda, based on Shakespeare novel. She as well performed for Pope John Paul II during his last visit to Brazil.  She sung under the baton of renowned conductors such as Tibiriçá, Karabtchevsky, Mincszuk, Malheiro, Viegas, Jamil Maluf, Abel Rocha, Kurt Masur, and Evelino Pidò.

Next year she will debut the role of Amelia in Simon Boccanegra at the Amazonas Opera Festival.

Her discography includes Jupyra with OSESP (BIS), Bachianas Brasileiras (Naxos), Songs of Love by Claudio Santoro (Quartz), Missa de Nossa Senhora da Conceição by Father José Maurício with OSB (Biscoito Fino), Songs by Gilberto Mendes (CCSP), Songs of Love by Santoro and Dessana, Dessana with the Amazonas Philharmonic.

She also participated in concerts in honor of Brazilian composers such as Carlos Gomes, Nepomucemo, Glauco Velasquez, organized by the Música Brasilis Institution, which seeks to rescue Brazilian musical memory. She is a regular guest at several Brazilian music festivals such as those in Campos do Jordão, Londrina, Maringá, Curitiba, Recife, acting as a performer and teacher.

Her recent engagements include the world premiere of Ronaldo Miranda's 6 Cantos de Lorca on texts by Garcia Lorca with São Paulo State Symphony, several concerts in NY, China, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Campinas, and the opera The Human Voice by Poulenc at Teatro Municipal de São Paulo.

She was active during the pandemic in social media projects with the Santo André Orchestra and coordinated the singing area at Festival Fimuca, the first virtual festival of classical music.

As a voice teacher, she worked at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and is currently active as a teacher in the Graduation and Pos-Graduation Departments at the Institute of Arts of São Paulo State University (UNESP), Music Department, Campus (São Paulo). She hold s a PhD in Musical Performance from UNESP.
