"Egypt, A Love Song" is a film by Israeli filmmaker Iris Zaki. Her grandmother, Souad Zaki, was a celebrated Jewish singer in 1940s Egypt, married to a renowned Muslim musician. After he abandoned her with their child, she fled to Israel, where she was consigned to live a double life: cleaning lady by day and singer by night. Souad's granddaughter, Iris, brings her tempestuous story to life in a sweeping project that crosses cultures, religions, and cinematic forms.
This film is available for free until April 28th.
