Dr. Raju V. Ramanujan, Professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore will give a seminar titled "The Accelerated Development of Next Generation Materials and Components" to the interested faculty and students at Discovery Park.
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are powerful and exciting techniques which can be harnessed for the discovery and development of novel, next generation, high performance materials. A combination of AI, ML and combinatorial high throughput experiments was deployed for the accelerated development of selected structural and functional materials. A database of the material, incorporating multiple property and processing data for many compositions, was curated from the literature. A multi-output ML model was then developed, and multi-objective Bayesian optimization was deployed to identify promising alloy compositions with superior property combinations. These compositions were then experimentally validated.
Materials libraries of the relevant composition spaces were processed by additive manufacturing, thin film, and powder based techniques. Combinatorial high throughput experiments were then employed to determine multiple properties and attractive compositions were discovered by this methodology. These compositions were used to fabricate prototype components with site specific components and properties. Our results demonstrate the potential of our accelerated approach of combining AI, ML and high throughput experiments to expedite materials discovery, development and component production.
