Dr. Jianlin Li, Department Manager of Energy Storage and Conversion at Argonne National Laboratory will give a seminar titled "Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing for Energy Storage Applications" to the interested faculty and students at Discovery Park.

Abstract

Advanced materials processing and manufacturing plays a critical role in mass production of batteries to meet the targets on cost and performance. In this presentation, an overview of manufacturing processes for lithium-ion batteries will be presented followed by introducing some new technologies in manufacturing lithium-ion batteries for low cost, low environmental impact and high performance.

Biography

Dr. Jianlin Li is a department manager of Energy Storage and Conversion at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). Prior to joining ANL, he spent almost 14 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a group leader and senior scientist. Dr. Li received his Ph.D degree in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Florida in 2009. His research area focuses on materials synthesis, electrode engineering and cell manufacturing for energy storage and conversion application. Dr. Li is a principal investigator (PI) or Co-PI on 63 projects with a total budget >$93 million. He has authored >160 journal articles, 1 book and 11 book chapters. Dr. Li is also an inventor of 34 patents and patent applications. He is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards including 2 UT-Battelle Awards, 3 R&D 100 Awards, and 2 Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Excellence in Technology Transfer Awards. Dr. Li serves as an associate editor for Journal of Energy Storage and IEEE IAS Transportation Systems Committee.
