Creating a human connection with students, or instructor presence, requires intentional design in online classes. When successfully implemented, it can positively influence success rate, motivation, and perception of learning (Amerstorfer & Freiin von Münster-Kistner; Bardorfer & Dolenc, 2022; Cartee, 2021; Caskurlu et al., 2020; Glazier & Skurat Harris, 2020; Miller & Mills, 2019). In a study of 35 classes, "high rapport" practices increased the class pass rate by 25%, especially among students with low GPAs (Glazier & Skurat Harris, 2020). Creating videos of yourself talking about course content is a high-rapport practice that can impact student success and motivation (Glazier et al., 2020; Miller et al., 2019). In this one-hour workshop, we'll share tips on creating engaging, high-quality videos easily. We receive a lot of feedback from faculty that these tips quickly yield more student engagement!
