https://www.mobilize.us/audubon-on-campus/event/766708/ #Bird City CelebrationWe are excited to invite you to the Denton Bird City Celebration at UNT’s Environmental, Education, Science, Technology, and Education (EESAT) atrium on April 15th, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m.!
For those who don’t know, the UNT Bird Campus Committee is a We Mean Green Fund committee established in 2019. This committee has created projects promoting and creating safe bird habitats on campus and within the Denton community. Some of these projects include bluebird boxes both on the main and Discovery Park campus, avian window collision monitoring, the Parking Lot Preserve in the EESAT staff parking lot, and more recently, the “Black Vulture Cam!” project funded by WMGF and the National Audubon Society’s Audubon in Action grants. This project is a live stream of a breeding pair of Black Vultures on the Discovery Park campus and will go live soon.
Bird City Texas is a certification program by Audubon Texas and Texas Parks and Wildlife that highlights a city’s contribution and efforts toward sustainability and bird conservation. It is estimated that nearly 3 billion birds have been lost since 1970. You can read more about the benefits of a Bird City community here. Other cities in this program include Dallas, Cedar Hill, and College Station.
At this Bird City Celebration, we plan to host games and activities such as Bird Trivia, Pictionary, and costumes. We encourage you to come in a bird-inspired costume, outfit, or makeup!
This celebration is to celebrate the various partnerships and collaborations formed to build the active community we have today. There is always more we can do for birds, but every step is crucial to wildlife and land conservation.
We hope to see you there, and thank you for your commitment to a bird-friendly campus and city!
