In the United States, Black History Month is observed annually during the month of February to commemorate the achievements and contributions of African Americans. This year’s theme, “African Americans and the Arts,” explores the influence African and Black American culture has had in literature, fashion, visual and performing arts, language, culinary, film and music. 

 

Events scheduled in Denton and on campus throughout the month include:

Mama's Kitchen Feb. 1 in University Union 335

Meandering Hemispheres: Mural by Lauren Kelley Feb. 10 at the UNT CoLab

- Spring Open House Feb.12 at the Chesnut Hall Rotunda

Quakertown Park Walking Tour Feb. 16 at the Denton County Historical Park

- Black History Month Lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 and 29, at all dining halls

Black History Month Celebration Feb. 24, at the MLK Jr. Rec Center

- Black History Month Reading Challenge through Thursday, Feb. 29, at Frisco Landing
