Since 2004, men from around the world have come together to raise awareness and funds for the issues that hit them where it hurts most…. their health! Each year in November, the University of North Texas and the Meadows Center for Health Resources, put on their own version of the Movember charity events, “No Shave Movember”. 2013 will be no stranger to the Mean Green events either, in fact, it will be bigger and “bushier” than ever.
Partnering with the UNT Substance Abuse Resource center and Eagle Peer Recovery, the Meadows Center for Health Resources hopes to make this year’s charity events bigger than ever. A specific focus in the men’s health arena has been chosen this year, the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related death in males, Testicular Cancer. The UNT collaboration will be hosting weekly “health huts” that will feature activities such as:
- Celebrity Beards
- Shave the balloon
- Penny Beard Wars
- “Check your package” educational programming
- Best of contests for moustaches and beards “Best of Show Mo”
- “Shave your Mo Bro” fundraiser
The events contests will also feature special categories for UNT Greek Life and Registered Student Organizations. Each group that enters will be raising money in hopes of winning the elusive “Bearded Lady” trophy. The group that raises the most for each category will win, and of course our non-profit will be reap the financial rewards.
All proceeds from the 2013 No Shave Movember events will be going directly to a 501(c) 3 testicular cancer foundation of the University of North Texas Meadows Center for Health Resources choice.
