North Texas Athletics will host a ceremony to raise the 30 foot by 60 foot battle flag for the first time this Saturday. The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in the black parking lot on the north side of Apogee Stadium near the alumni pavilion.
This will be the first time for fans to see the giant flag since they voted in June for the battle flag to be prominently displayed near the intersection of interstates 35E and 35W. Fans will hear remarks from Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker and will be able to pick up souvenir gifts representing the historic event. The ceremony is being held in advance of the Mean Green football game against UAB later that afternoon. Fans are encouraged to attend the flag-raising ceremony at 3 p.m. then make their way to the Mean Green March to welcome the team into the stadium at 3:30.
The 120-foot flag pole was installed last week, and this will be the first time the new flag will be raised to its permanent home. For the history on the North Texas battle flag, click here.
